Aparna Bag is a renowned Indian Classical Dancer, choreographer, and the founder of Aparna’s Dance Studio in Franklin, Wisconsin, USA. She is a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Bivakar Award, the highest honor presented to eminent artists for lifetime achievements in the field of performing arts.
Born and raised in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, Aparna began her dance journey at the age of four under the esteemed Shri Sadhan Guha, a renowned classical dancer from West Bengal. She later refined her skills under Smt. Kashmira Samanta, a disciple of Guru Dr. Thankamani Kutty, one of the most celebrated Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam dancers and teachers. Dr. Thankamani Kutty and her late husband, P. Govindan Kutty, played a significant role in promoting South Indian dance, music, and theatre in West Bengal.
Aparna has performed at prestigious dance festivals, stage productions, and television shows across India and the USA. Some of her notable performances include the Uday Shankar Dance Festival, Kalinga Dance Festival, Konark Dance Festival, Puri Beach Festival in India, and various cultural showcases and community events in Wisconsin, USA. She has also appeared on television channels such as E-TV Bangla, Tara Music, Colors Bangla, and Kolkata Doordarshan.
While specializing in Bharatanatyam, Aparna is also highly proficient in Rabindra Nritya, Bollywood, Semi-Classical, and various Indian folk dance forms. Her teaching career began in India, where she trained aspiring dancers in classical techniques. Over the years, she has expanded her repertoire to include Bollywood, semi-classical, and creative dance styles for students of all age groups in the USA.
Aparna has been honored with multiple awards for her contributions to the performing arts, including the Sangeet Sree Award (Senior Diploma with Distinction) and the Sangeet Bivakar Award, recognizing her lifelong dedication to dance.
