Bharatanatyam is a major form of Indian classical dance originated from Tamil Nadu, southern part of India. This is the oldest form of Indian classical dances. The word Bharata-Natyam is broken down into (Bha)va means Expression, (Ra)ga means Melody, (Ta)la means Rhythm, and, Natyam meaning Dance. Bharatanatyam is eminent for its grace, purity, tenderness, and sculpture-like poses. The two main aspects of this dance is Lasya, the female aspect and Tandava, the male aspect. This dance is mainly complemented by Sangeetam which is the words set to the rhythm of dance. This is One of the most popular dance forms preformed around the world. This was mainly used by the Devadasis(wives of Gods) in the Temples. This dance form is Designed by Natyashastra, the bible of Indian classical dance. Most of the Temple Sculptures are based on the Bharatanatyam dance postures.
